YCC - Big River Way Road Race (CANCELLED) - 21st April 2024

COURSE DETAILS

This YCC road race will be held at Big River Way on a challenging 50km, 3 lap course. The race starts on Sheehans Drive near the Gulmarrad Fire Station and heads towards Big River Way via the McIntyres Lane climb. Riders will cross the Pacific Motorway overpass then turn right onto Big River Way. The race heads north following the banks of the Clarence River for a few kms before a u-turn on the outskirts of Maclean. Turning left back onto McIntyres Lane the riders will be faced with a short but sharp climb that will test the legs and burn a few matches. A u-turn point will be located along Sheehans Drive to enable riders to turn around and complete 3 laps of this course.

For those still able to contest the finish, the road surface along Sheehans Lane is wide and smooth with a series of false flats that allow for high speeds. Leaders beware that riders dropped on the climb can use this speed to try get back to the front group. The finish line is located on a slight uphill which will stretch the legs even further. 

RACE FORMAT 

The format will be OPEN GRADED SCRATCH, with A, B, C and D grade races on offer. This should cater for all levels of racing skill and ability. 

Juniors (U15 and U17) riders may ride in open grades under the condition they race using their restricted gears and do not exceed the maximum allowable distance for their age category, unless they have received approval by the State Junior Coach. RACE ENTRY, GRADING AND SIGN ON

To help with managing the race and allocating prize money, race entry is via this link only. If you miss the deadline just message us and we can open up the online portal.

Riders are to self select their grade but changes can be made before the start time by the club handicapper. All riders will be notified of their final grading at the pre-race briefing. 

Sign on is located at the start/finish line from 6:30am. You will find us under the big blue gazebo. You will need to show us a valid race level licence.

PRIZES

Prize money for placings in grades A to D will be calculated from the total pool of entry fees collected plus race sponsorship. As per usual, we will be giving the same $$ to place getters in A to D grades. 

PARKING, TOILETS, ETC

Parking is located at the start/finish line and toilet facilites are located approx 2km away at various locations in Maclean. Riders are asked to retain all their food wrappers during the race and dispose of them in the bins provided at the sign on table.

WARM UP

Riders are allowed to warm up on the course up until the pre-race briefing at 7:15am. After this point riders can only use the adjacent roads. All normal road rules apply.

I waive any rights I may otherwise have against AusCycling, the event promoter and their agents and representatives relating to, and agree they are not responsible for, any loss or damage resulting from my participation in the event, including any loss that may arise from death or injury to myself or others, or damage to any property.

4. I agree to follow the directions of any event organiser or official and the AusCycling Technical Regulations, a copy of which is available on the AusCycling website.

5. If the participant in this event is under 18 years of age, I warrant that I am a parent or guardian of the participant and agree for myself and the participant that I provide the acknowledgements, agreements and waiver set out above in respect of the participant
