YCC - James Creek Road Race - 25th May 2025

COURSE DETAILS

This YCC road race will be held at James Creek on a challenging 40km, 2 lap course. The race starts on James Creek Road near the Harwood Bridge and heads south towards Gardeners Road via a series of short climbs. Riders will turn left under neutral conditions onto Gardiners Road then head across the plateau before riding the sugar cane and macadamia flats that run alongside Palmers Channel. The race makes a u-turn and heads back along Gardeners Road going through undulating country before making another u-turn just before the outskirts of Townsend. Riders will cross more undulating roads then make an uphill left turn on James Creek Road to head back to the finish line. At the finish line there is a turnaround point to allow riders to do another lap of the course.

For those riders who have made it over the undulations again on the second lap and are able to contest the finish, there are 2 short climbs to be able to dislodge any remaining freeloaders before the finale. The road surface along James Creek is wide with a series of false flats that allow for high speeds as you cross the finish line.

RACE FORMAT and CONDITIONS

The format will be OPEN GRADED SCRATCH, with A, B, C and D grade races on offer. This should cater for all levels of racing skill and ability. If entry numbers are low, we will change the format to GRADED HANDICAP.

The race is held on open roads with all normal road rules in effect. There is a lead and follow vehicle, as well as turn marshals along the course.

RACE ENTRY, GRADING AND SIGN ON

Riders with an AusCycling Race Members (All Disciplines), 4 week free trial or Day Race Membership are eligible to enter this race. For memberships see this link: auscycling.org.au/become-a-member

To help with managing the format and race grading, entry is via this link only. ENTRIES CLOSE AT 12PM ON SATURDAY 24th MAY 2025. If you miss the deadline just message us and we can open up the online entry portal.

Riders are to self select their grade but changes can be made before the start time by the club handicapper. 

Sign on is located at the start/finish line from 6:30am. You will find us under the big blue gazebo. You will need to show us a valid race level licence.

PLACINGS

Placings will be awarded to the first three riders across the line in each race. If placed outside the top three, the top placed female rider will also be acknowledged at the post race presentation.   

PARKING, TOILETS, ETC

Parking is located under or near the Harwood Bridge, with a toilet located at the boat ramp 300m west of the start line. We ask that vehicles do not park along James Creek Road as this space is reserved for official race vehicles. 

WARM UP

Riders are allowed to warm up on the course up until the pre-race briefing at 7:20am. After this point riders can only use the adjacent roads. All normal road rules apply.

4. I agree to follow the directions of any event organiser or official and the AusCycling Technical Regulations, a copy of which is available on the AusCycling website.

5. If the participant in this event is under 18 years of age, I warrant that I am a parent or guardian of the participant and agree for myself and the participant that I provide the acknowledgements, agreements and waiver set out above in respect of the participant
